And they ask you about Dhul-Qarnain. Say: "I shall recite to you something of his story." 83 Verily, We established him in the earth, and We gave him the means of everything. 84 He set out (westwards) on an expedition, 85 to the West where he found the sun setting into a warm source (spring) of water and a people living near by. We asked him, "Dhu 'l-Qarnayn, you may punish them or treat them with kindness?" 86 He replied, "I shall punish the unjust ones among them and then they will return to their Lord, who will punish them more sternly". 87 As for those who believe and do good, they will receive virtuous rewards and We will tell them to do only what they can. 88 He again pursued a purpose. 89 until he reached the limit where the sun rises and he found it rising on a people whom We had provided no shelter from it. 90 It was so, for We were fully informed about him. 91 Then he followed a way 92 after this to the middle of two mountains where he found a people who could hardly understand a single word. 93 They said: O Zul-Qarnain verily Yajuj and Majuj are working corruption in the land; shall we then pay thee tribute on condition that thou place between us and them a barrier! 94 He said: better is that wherein my Lord hath established me; so help me with might, and I shall place between you and them a rampart. 95 Bring me ingots of iron." Then after he had filled up the space between the two mountain-sides, he said: "(Light a fire) and ply bellows." When he had made it (red like) fire, he said: "Bring me molten copper which I may pour on it." 96 Thereafter they could neither scale it, nor could they pierce it. 97 "This is the benevolence of my Lord," he said; "but when the promise of my Lord comes to pass, He will reduce it to a mound of dust; and the promise of my Lord is true." 98 ۞ On that Day, We shall let them surge against each other like waves and then the Trumpet will be blown and We shall gather them all together. 99 And on that Day We shall present Hell to the disbelievers, plain to view, 100 (To) Those whose eyes had been under a covering from My Reminder (this Quran), and who could not bear to hear (it). 101
