Mary (Maryam)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Kaf-Ha-Ya-A’in-Sad. (* Alphabets of the Arabic language – Allah and to whomever He reveals know their precise meanings.) 1 A mention of the Mercy of your Lord to his worshiper Zachariah, 2 When he called out to his Sustainer in the secrecy of his heart, 3 Saying: "My Lord! Indeed my bones have grown feeble, and grey hair has spread on my head, And I have never been unblest in my invocation to You, O my Lord! 4 And surely I fear my cousins after me, and my wife is barren, therefore grant me from Thyself an heir, 5 who will be my heir and an heir to the House of Jacob, and make him, my Lord, satisfied' 6 (It was said unto him): O Zachariah! Lo! We bring thee tidings of a son whose name is John; We have given the same name to none before (him). 7 "How can I have a son, O Lord" he said, "when my wife is barren and I am old and decrepit?" 8 Answered [the angel]: "Thus it is; [but] thy Sustainer says, 'This is easy for Me - even as I have created thee aforetime out of nothing'". 9 [Zachariah] prayed: "O my Sustainer! Appoint a sign for me!" Said [the angel]: "Thy sign shall be that for full three nights [and days] thou wilt not speak unto men". 10 Then he came out to his people from Al-Mihrab (a praying place or a private room, etc.), he told them by signs to glorify Allah's Praises in the morning and in the afternoon. 11 O Yahya! take hold of the Book with strength, and We granted him wisdom while yet a child 12 We gave him compassion and purity. He was a pious human being, 13 and cherishing his parents, not arrogant, rebellious. 14 Peace be upon him the day he was born, and the day he will die, and the day he will be raised up alive. 15
