Mary (Maryam)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Kaf Ha Ya Ain Suad. 1 This is an account of your Lord's mercy bestowed upon His servant Zachariah, 2 When he cried unto his Lord a cry in secret, 3 He said, "My Lord, indeed my bones have weakened, and my head has filled with white, and never have I been in my supplication to You, my Lord, unhappy. 4 "Now I fear (what) my relatives (and colleagues) (will do) after me: but my wife is barren: so give me an heir as from Thyself,- 5 who shall be my inheritor and the inheritor of the House of Jacob; and make him, my Lord, well-pleasing.' 6 (His prayer was answered): "O Zakariya! We give thee good news of a son: His name shall be Yahya: on none by that name have We conferred distinction before." 7 He said, "My Lord, how will I have a boy when my wife has been barren and I have reached extreme old age?" 8 Answered [the angel]: "Thus it is; [but] thy Sustainer says, 'This is easy for Me - even as I have created thee aforetime out of nothing'". 9 [Zakariya (Zachariah)] said: "My Lord! Appoint for me a sign." He said: "Your sign is that you shall not speak unto mankind for three nights, though having no bodily defect." 10 Then Zachariah came forth from the shrine to his people and told them by signs to glorify the Lord morning and evening. 11 O Yahya! take hold of the Book with strength, and We granted him wisdom while yet a child 12 And compassion from Us, and goodness. So he was devout, 13 And kind to his parents, neither arrogant nor disobedient. 14 He was born and died in peace and will be brought back to life again in peace. 15
