Mary (Maryam)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
KAF HA YA 'AIN SAD. 1 A mention of the mercy of thy Lord unto His servant Zachariah. 2 When he softly prayed to his Lord. 3 "Lord, my bones have weakened and my head has turned hoary with age, but never, Lord, have I been disappointed in my prayer to you: 4 And indeed, I fear the successors after me, and my wife has been barren, so give me from Yourself an heir 5 who will be my heir and an heir to the House of Jacob, and make him, my Lord, satisfied' 6 (Allah said) "O Zakariya (Zachariah)! Verily, We give you the glad tidings of a son, His name will be Yahya (John). We have given that name to none before (him)." 7 He submitted, “My Lord – how can I have a son whereas my wife is barren and I have reached infirmity due to old age?” 8 (The angel) answered: "Thus will it be. Your Lord said: 'This is easy for Me; for when I brought you into being you were nothing.' 9 (Zakariya) said: "O my Lord! give me a Sign." "Thy Sign," was the answer, "Shall be that thou shalt speak to no man for three nights, although thou art not dumb." 10 Then Zachariah came forth from the shrine to his people and told them by signs to glorify the Lord morning and evening. 11 “O Yahya – hold the Book firmly”; and We gave him Prophethood in his infancy. (Prophet Yahya was only 2 years old at that time.) 12 and a tenderness from Us, and purity; and he was godfearing, 13 And dutiful to his parents, and he was not a disobedient tyrant. 14 So Peace on him the day he was born the day that he dies and the day that he will be raised up to life (again)! 15
