AND CALL to mind, through this divine writ, Abraham. Behold, he was a man of truth, [already] a prophet 41 who asked his father, "Father, why do you worship something that can neither hear nor see nor help you at all? 42 Father, I have been given some knowledge which has not come to you, so follow me: I shall guide you along a straight path. 43 Father, do not worship satan; for satan has rebelled against the Merciful. 44 Father, I am afraid that the Beneficent God's torment will strike you and you will become a friend of satan." 45 (The father) replied: "Dost thou hate my gods, O Abraham? If thou forbear not, I will indeed stone thee: Now get away from me for a good long while!" 46 He said, “Stop it – peace be upon you; I shall seek forgiveness for you from my Lord; indeed He is very kind to me.” 47 And I will withdraw from you and what you call on besides Allah, and I will call upon my Lord; may be I shall not remain unblessed in calling upon my Lord. 48 So when he had left them and those they worshipped other than Allah, We gave him Isaac and Jacob, and each [of them] We made a prophet. 49 and We bestowed on them Our mercy, and granted them a truly lofty renown. 50
