۞ We had earlier given Abraham true direction, for We knew him well. 51 Behold! he said to his father and his people, "What are these images, to which ye are (so assiduously) devoted?" 52 They said:"We found our fathers worshipping them." 53 He said, "Both you and your fathers have certainly been in error." 54 They said: Bringest thou unto us the truth, or art thou some jester? 55 He said, "[No], rather, your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth who created them, and I, to that, am of those who testify. 56 By the Lord, I will devise a plan against your deities after you have gone away and turned your backs!" 57 Then he broke them all into pieces, sparing only the supreme one among them that they may possibly return to him. 58 They said, "Who has done this to our gods? He must indeed be some man of impiety!" 59 Some among them said, “We heard a youth speak ill of them the one called Ibrahim.” 60 They said, "Then bring him before the eyes of the people that they may testify." 61 "Did you do this to our gods, O Abraham?" they enquired. 62 Said he, “Rather, their chief may have done it; so question them, if they can speak.” 63 Thereupon they turned to their (inner) selves and said (to themselves): "Surely it is you who are the wrong-doers." 64 Then they were made to hang down their heads: Certainly you know that they do not speak. 65 (Abraham) said, "Do ye then worship, besides Allah, things that can neither be of any good to you nor do you harm? 66 Shame on you and on whatever you worship instead of God. Can you not understand?" 67 They exclaimed: "Burn him, and [thereby] succour your gods, if you are going to do [anything]!" 68 We said: O fire! be thou cool and peace unto Ibrahim. 69 They sought to outwit him, but We made them the worst of losers. 70 And We delivered him and Lut to the land wherein We had placed Our blessings for the worlds. 71 We gave him, in excess, Isaac, and Jacob (for a grandson); and We made each righteous 72 And We made them leaders, guiding by Our command; and We revealed unto them the doing of good deeds and the establishment of prayer, and the giving of poor-rate; and of Us they were the worshippers. 73 To Lot We gave wisdom and knowledge, and saved him from a people who acted villainously and were certainly wicked and disobedient. 74 And We admitted him into Our mercy. Verily he was of the righteous. 75
