۞ And certainly We gave to Ibrahim his rectitude before, and We knew him fully well. 51 He said to his father and to his nation: 'What, are these the statues to which you cling' 52 They said: We found our fathers worshippers of them. 53 He said, “Indeed you all – you and your forefathers – were in open error.” 54 They said: Bringest thou unto us the truth, or art thou some jester? 55 He said: Nay! your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, Who brought them into existence, and I am of those who bear witness to this: 56 And, by God, I shall assuredly outwit your idols, after you have gone away turning your backs.' 57 And then he broke those [idols] to pieces, [all] save the biggest of them, so that they might [be able to] turn to it. 58 They said: Who has done this to our gods? Most surely he is one of the unjust. 59 They said: We heard a youth speak of them, who is called Ibrahim. 60 The others said: "Bring him, then, before the eyes of the people that they may see (what will be done to him)." 61 They said, “Did you do this to our Gods, O Ibrahim?” 62 'No' he replied. 'It was their great one amongst them that did it. Ask them, if they are able to speak' 63 Then they thought and observed: "Surely you are yourselves unjust." 64 Then crestfallen (they confessed): "Truly, as you know, they cannot speak." 65 He said: 'Would you then worship that, instead of Allah, which can neither help nor harm you? 66 Fie upon you and upon all that you worship beside Allah. Do you have no sense?" 67 They said, 'Burn him, and help your gods, if you would do aught.' 68 We said: "O fire, become coolness and safety for Abraham." 69 They had sought to do evil to him, but We caused them to be the worst losers, 70 We saved him and Lot, and brought them to the land which We had blessed for all the worlds. 71 And We bestowed upon him Isaac and Jacob as an additional gift, making each of them righteous. 72 And We made them leaders to guide (the people) by Our command; and We inspired them to perform good deeds and observe their moral obligations and pay the zakat; and they obeyed Us. 73 And (remember) Lout (Lot), We gave him Hukman (right judgement of the affairs and Prophethood) and (religious) knowledge, and We saved him from the town (folk) who practised Al-Khaba'ith (evil, wicked and filthy deeds, etc.). Verily, they were a people given to evil, and were Fasiqun (rebellious, disobedient, to Allah). 74 And We admitted him into Our mercy. Indeed, he was of the righteous. 75
