۞ We gave Abraham aforetime his rectitude -- for We knew him -- 51 He said to his father and to his nation: 'What, are these the statues to which you cling' 52 They said: We found our fathers worshippers of them. 53 He said: "You and your fathers were in clear error." 54 They exclaimed, "Have you brought the Truth or are you joking?" 55 He said, "Nay, your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, He Who created them (from nothing): and I am a witness to this (Truth). 56 And, by Allah, I shall circumvent your idols after ye have gone away and turned your backs. 57 So he broke them into pieces, except the chief of them, that haply they may return to it. 58 They said: Who hath done this to our gods? Surely it must be some evil-doer. 59 They said, "We heard a youth talk of them: He is called Abraham." 60 They said: bring him then before the eyes of the people, haply they may bear witness. 61 They said: "Are you the one who has done this to our gods, O Ibrahim (Abraham)?" 62 He said: rather he hath wrought it, this big one of them; so question them, if they ever speak. 63 So they turned to themselves and said, "Surely ye are the ones in the wrong!" 64 then they hung their heads, and said, "O Abraham! You know they cannot speak." 65 [Ibrahim (Abraham)] said: "Do you then worship besides Allah, things that can neither profit you, nor harm you? 66 Fie on you and on what you serve besides Allah; what! do you not then understand? 67 They said: burn him, and succour your gods, if ye will be doing. 68 [But] We said: O fire! Be thou cool, and [a source of] inner peace for Abraham!" 69 And they wished to cause him harm, so We made them the greatest of losers. 70 So We delivered him and Lot, and brought them to the land We had blessed for all the people. 71 And We bestowed on him Isaac and, as an additional gift, (a grandson), Jacob, and We made righteous men of every one (of them). 72 And We made them leaders guiding by Our command. And We inspired to them the doing of good deeds, establishment of prayer, and giving of zakah; and they were worshippers of Us. 73 And unto Lot we gave judgment and knowledge, and We delivered him from the community that did abominations. Lo! they were folk of evil, lewd. 74 and We admitted him into Our mercy; he was of the righteous. 75
