The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
O thou enveloped in thy cloak, 1 Rise up and warn! 2 Thy Lord magnify 3 thy robes purify 4 And stay away from idols. 5 Nor expect, in giving, any increase (for thyself)! 6 And for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 When the Trumpet is sounded, 8 It will be a day of distress, 9 and it will not be easy for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me and him whom I created alone, 11 and to whom I have granted resources in abundance, 12 And sons abiding in his presence 13 And made several preparations for him. 14 Yet he desireth that I should give more. 15 By no means! He has been stubbornly hostile to Our revelation: 16 [and so] I shall constrain him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 For he thought and he plotted -- 18 So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 19 Again, death seize him, how he determined! 20 He looked (at others); 21 and then he frowns and glares, 22 and he turned his back and behaved arrogantly 23 and said: “This (Qur'an) is merely a sorcery of yore; 24 This is naught but the word of a mortal. 25 I will drive him into Saqar. 26 What do you think Hell-fire is? 27 Naught doth it permit to endure, and naught doth it leave alone!- 28 making [all truth] visible to mortal man. 29 over it are nineteen. 30 We have not appointed any one but angels as keepers of Hell, and their number that We have fixed is to make it a means of contention for disbelievers, so that those who were given the Book may be certain, and the faith of the believers may have greater increase, and the people of the Book and believers may not be deceived, and the sceptics and infidels may say: "What does God mean by this parable?" That is how God leads whosoever He will astray, and guides whosoever He will. None knows the armies of your Lord save Him self. This is no more than reminder for mankind. 31
