And said the leaders of his people, who disbelieved and denied the confronting of the Hereafter – and We had given them comfort in the worldly life – that, “He is nothing but a human like you, he eats from what you eat and drinks from what you drink.” 33 And if you should obey a man like yourselves, indeed, you would then be losers. 34 Promiseth he unto you that ye, when ye have died and have become dust and bones, ye are to be brought forth? 35 ۞ Far, far is that which you are threatened with. 36 There exists only our present life: we die and we live [but once], and shall never be raised up again. 37 “He is just a man who has fabricated a lie against Allah, and we are not going to believe him.” 38 The Messenger prayed, "Lord, help me; they have called me a liar". 39 Said Allah, “They will soon wake up at morn, regretting.” 40 And then the blast [of Our punishment] overtook them, justly and unavoidably, and We caused them to become as the flotsam of dead leaves and the scum borne on the surface of a torrent: and so - away with those evildoing folk! 41 Then, after them, We created other generations. 42 No nation can outstrip its term, nor can it put it back. 43 Then We sent Our Messengers in succession. Whenever a Messenger came to his people they rejected him, calling him a liar. Thereupon, We made each people to follow the other (to its doom), reducing them to mere tales (of the past). Scourged be the people who do not believe! 44 Then We sent Moses and his brother Aaron with Our tokens and a clear warrant 45 unto Pharaoh and his Council; but they waxed proud, and they were a lofty people, 46 They said: "Shall we believe in two men like ourselves? And their people are subject to us!" 47 So they rejected them, calling them liars, and they too eventually became of those that were destroyed. 48 And We gave Moses the Book, in order that they might receive guidance. 49 And We made the son of Maryam and his mother a sign; and We sheltered the twain on a height: a quiet abode and running water. 50
