The unbelieving assembly of his nation, who belied the encounter of the Everlasting Life, and on whom We had bestowed ease in this life, said: 'This is but a human like yourselves; he eats of what you eat and drinks of what you drink. 33 If ye were to obey a mortal like yourselves, then, lo! ye surely would be losers. 34 Does he promise you that when you are dead and are reduced to dust and bones, you will be brought forth to life? 35 ۞ Far, far is that which you are threatened with. 36 There is nought but our life of the world; we die and we live, and we are not going to be raised up. 37 "He is only a man who has invented a lie against Allah, but we are not going to believe in him." 38 [Whereupon the prophet] would say: "O my Sustainer! Succour me against their accusation of lying!" 39 Said Allah, “They will soon wake up at morn, regretting.” 40 Then the Blast overtook them with justice, and We made them as rubbish of dead leaves (floating on the stream of Time)! So away with the people who do wrong! 41 Then We raised after them other generations. 42 No nation can live beyond its allotted time, or lag behind. 43 And We sent forth Our apostles, one after another: [and] every time their apostle came to a community, they gave him the lie: and so We caused them to follow one another [into the grave,] and let them become [mere] tales: and so - away with the folk who would not believe! 44 Then We sent Moses and his brother Aaron with Our miracles and clear proofs 45 Unto Fir'awn and his chiefs, but they grew stiff-necked, and they were a people self-exalting. 46 They said, "Should we believe in two mere mortals who are like ourselves and whose people are our slaves?" 47 So they belied them, and they were among the destroyed. 48 And We gave Moses the Book, that haply they would be guided; 49 And We made the son of Maryam (Mary) and his mother as a sign, And We gave them refuge on high ground, a place of rest, security and flowing streams. 50
