And the chieftains of his folk, who disbelieved and denied the meeting of the Hereafter, and whom We had made soft in the life of the world, said: This is only a mortal like you, who eateth of that whereof ye eat and drinketh of that ye drink. 33 And were ye to obey a human being like you, ye are forthwith to be losers. 34 Does he give you a promise that when you are dead and turned to dust and bones, you will be raised to life again? 35 ۞ Far-fetched, utterly far-fetched is what you are being promised. 36 "There is nothing but our life of this world! We die and we live! And we are not going to be resurrected! 37 "He is only a man who has invented a lie against Allah, but we are not going to believe in him." 38 He said: 'Help me, Lord, they belie me' 39 (Allah) said: "In a little while, they are sure to be regretful." 40 So the punishment overtook them in justice, and We made them as rubbish; so away with the unjust people. 41 Then We produced after them other generations. 42 No nation can outstrip its term, nor can it put it back. 43 Then sent We Our Messengers successively; whenever its Messenger came to a nation they cried him lies, so We caused some of them to follow others, and We made them as but tales; so away with a people who do not believe! 44 Then We sent Musa (Moses) and his brother Harun (Aaron), with Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) and manifest authority, 45 To Pharaoh and his establishment, but they were arrogant and were a haughty people. 46 'What' they said, 'are we to believe in two mortals like us, whose nation are our worshipers' 47 So they rejected them both, and became those who were destroyed. 48 And We gave the Book to Moses so that they may be guided. 49 And [as We exalted Moses, so, too,] We made the son of Mary and his mother a symbol [of Our grace,] and provided for both an abode in a lofty place of lasting restfulness and unsullied springs. 50
