And the chiefs of his people, who disbelieved and denied the Meeting in the Hereafter, and on whom We had bestowed the good things of this life, said: "He is no more than a man like yourselves: he eats of that of which ye eat, and drinks of what ye drink. 33 If you obey a mortal like yourselves, you shall be lost. 34 "Does he promise that when ye die and become dust and bones, ye shall be brought forth (again)? 35 ۞ Away, away with that you are promised! 36 There is only the life of this world: We die and we live: there is no rising from the dead for us. 37 He is nothing but a man who has forged against Allah a lie, we will never believe him' 38 The Messenger said: "My Lord! Come to my help at their accusing me of lying." 39 (Allah) said: "In but a little while, they are sure to be sorry!" 40 And then the blast [of Our punishment] overtook them, justly and unavoidably, and We caused them to become as the flotsam of dead leaves and the scum borne on the surface of a torrent: and so - away with those evildoing folk! 41 Then We raised after them other generations. 42 No nation can live beyond its allotted time, or lag behind. 43 Then We sent Our Messengers in succession. Whenever a Messenger came to his people they rejected him, calling him a liar. Thereupon, We made each people to follow the other (to its doom), reducing them to mere tales (of the past). Scourged be the people who do not believe! 44 Then We sent Moses and his brother Aaron with Our signs and a manifest authority 45 Unto Fir'awn and his chiefs, but they grew stiff-necked, and they were a people self-exalting. 46 'What' they said, 'are we to believe in two mortals like us, whose nation are our worshipers' 47 So they accused them of falsehood, and they became of those who were destroyed. 48 And indeed We gave Musa (Moses) the Scripture, that they may be guided. 49 We made the son of Mary and his mother a miracle and settled them on a high land, quite secure and watered by a spring. 50
