The chiefs of the people who did not believe and denied the life to come, though We had given them good things of this life to enjoy, (said): "He is only a mortal like you. He eats as you do, and drinks as you drink. 33 If you follow a mortal like yourselves you will certainly be lost. 34 Does he promise you that, after you have died and become [mere] dust and bones, you shall be brought forth [to a new life]? 35 ۞ What you are promised is indeed far-fetched. 36 There is naught but our life in this world; we die and we live and we shall not be raised again. 37 “He is just a man who has fabricated a lie against Allah, and we are not going to believe him.” 38 The Messenger prayed, "Lord, help me; they have called me a liar". 39 Answered (the Lord): "They shall wake up repenting soon." 40 Then the Blast overtook them with justice, and We made them as rubbish of dead leaves (floating on the stream of Time)! So away with the people who do wrong! 41 Then after them We brought forth other generations. 42 [for,] no community can ever forestall [the end of] its term - and neither can they delay [its coming]. 43 We then sent our Noble Messengers, one after another; whenever a nation’s Noble Messenger came to it they denied him, We therefore united the succeeding with the old, and made them history; so far removed be the people who do not believe! 44 Thereafter We sent Musa and his brother Harun with Our signs and an authority manifest. 45 To Pharaoh and his nobles who behaved with arrogance, for they were a conceited lot, 46 They said: "Shall we believe in two men like ourselves, and their people are obedient to us with humility (and we use them to serve us as we like)." 47 So they cried them lies, and they were among the destroyed. 48 And We gave Moses the Book, that haply they would be guided; 49 And We made the son of Maryam and his mother a sign; and We sheltered the twain on a height: a quiet abode and running water. 50
