Light (Al-Noor)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ A Surah [is this] which We have bestowed from on high, and which We have laid down in plain terms; and in it have We bestowed from on high messages which are clear [in themselves,] so that you might keep [them] in mind. 1 The [unmarried] woman or [unmarried] man found guilty of sexual intercourse - lash each one of them with a hundred lashes, and do not be taken by pity for them in the religion of Allah, if you should believe in Allah and the Last Day. And let a group of the believers witness their punishment. 2 The adulterer shall not marry save an adulteress or an idolatress, and the adulteress none shall marry save an adulterer or an idolater. All that is forbidden unto believers. 3 And those who accuse free women then do not bring four witnesses, flog them, (giving) eighty stripes, and do not admit any evidence from them ever; and these it is that are the transgressors, 4 Except those who repent after this and reform; and God is surely forgiving and kind. 5 One who accuses his wife and has no witnesses except himself shall swear four times by God that his charge is true, 6 And the fifth [oath will be] that the curse of Allah be upon him if he should be among the liars. 7 But the punishment will be averted from her if she swears four times that he is of the liars, 8 and the fifth [time,] that God's curse be upon her if he is telling the truth, 9 (This would not have been possible) if the grace and benevolence of God were not upon you; but God is compassionate and wise. 10
