Alshu'araa' 2 of 11
And when thy Lord called to Moses, 'Go to the people of the evildoers, 10 “The nation of Firaun; will they not fear?” 11 He replied, "Lord, I am afraid that they will call me a liar. 12 And my breast straiteneth, and my tongue moveth not quickly: so send for Harun. 13 And they have a crime against me, so I fear that they will kill me. 14 Allah said: "Nay! Go you both with Our Signs. Verily! We shall be with you, listening. 15 “Therefore approach Firaun then proclaim, ‘We both are Noble Messengers of the Lord Of The Creation.’ 16 [Commanded to say], "Send with us the Children of Israel."'" 17 [Fir'aun (Pharaoh)] said [to Musa (Moses)]: "Did we not bring you up among us as a child? And you did dwell many years of your life with us. 18 "And you did your deed, which you did (i.e. the crime of killing a man). And you are one of the ingrates." 19 Musa (Moses) said: "I did it then, when I was an ignorant (as regards my Lord and His Message). 20 “I therefore went away from you as I feared you – so my Lord commanded me and appointed me as one of the Noble Messengers.” 21 "And this is the past favour with which you reproach me, that you have enslaved the Children of Israel." 22 Pharaoh said: "And what is the 'Lord and Cherisher of the worlds'?" 23 [Moses] said, "The Lord of the heavens and earth and that between them, if you should be convinced." 24 Fir'aun (Pharaoh) said to those around: "Do you not hear (what he says)?" 25 Moses said: "(He is) Your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers of yore." 26 [Pharaoh] said, "Indeed, your 'messenger' who has been sent to you is mad." 27 (Moses) said: "Lord of the East and the West, and all between! if ye only had sense!" 28 Said [Pharaoh]: "Indeed, if thou choose to worship any deity other than me, I shall most certainly throw thee into prison! 29 Said Moosa, “Even if I bring to you something clear?” 30 [Pharaoh] answered: "Produce it, then, if thou art a man of truth!" 31 Then he flung down his staff and it became a serpent manifest, 32 And he drew forth his hand, and lo, it looked white to the beholders. 33
