Recite unto them the story of Abraham: 69 When he said to his father and his people, "What do you worship?" 70 They replied: "We worship idols and are devoted to them." 71 'Do they hear you when you call on them' He asked. 72 Or, benefit they you or hurt they you? 73 They said: Nay, we found our fathers doing so. 74 He said, “Do you see these – (the idols) whom you worship?” 75 you and your fathers, the elders? 76 Verily they are an enemy unto me, save the Lord of the worlds. 77 who created me. It is He who guides me; 78 He Who feedeth me and giveth me to drink. 79 And when I sicken, then He healeth me. 80 “And He will give me death, then resurrect me.” 81 "And who, I hope, will forgive me my faults on the day of Judgment. 82 (And then Abraham prayed): "My Lord, endow me with knowledge and wisdom and join me with the righteous, 83 And ordain for me a goodly mention among posterity 84 And make me one of the inheritors of the Garden of Delight. 85 "Forgive my father, for that he is among those astray; 86 and disgrace me not on the Day when people will be raised to life, 87 on the Day of Judgment when neither wealth nor children will be of any benefit 88 except what is done in obedience to God with a submissive heart. 89 And Paradise will be brought near [that Day] to the righteous. 90 "And to those straying in Evil, the Fire will be placed in full view; 91 And it shall be said unto them where is that which ye were wont to worship? 92 besides God? Can they help you or even help themselves?" 93 So they shall be thrown down into it, they and the erring ones, 94 And the whole hosts of Iblis (Satan) together. 95 "Quarrelling therein with each other, 96 "By Allah, we were indeed in manifest error 97 when we made you equal with the Lord of the Universe. 98 It was but the guilty who misled us. 99 We have no one to intercede for us before God 100 nor a loving friend. 101 Oh, that we had another turn (on earth), that we might be of the believers! 102 Most surely there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe. 103 Your Lord is certainly Majestic and All-merciful. 104
