And recount to them the story of Abraham: 69 When he said to his father and his people: "What do you worship?" 70 They said: we worship idols, and we are unto them ever devoted 71 He asked, "Do they hear you when you call to them? 72 or can they benefit or harm you?" 73 They said, "No, but our fathers worshipped them." 74 He said: See now that which ye worship, 75 “You and your forefathers preceding you.” 76 Yet they are my enemies except the Lord of all the worlds 77 Who created me and Who guides me; 78 Who gives me food and drink, 79 And heals me when I am sick, 80 Who will cause me to die and then will again restore me to life; 81 Who, I hope, will forgive me my sins on the Day of Judgement." 82 My Lord, bestow wisdom upon me; unite me with the righteous; 83 And appoint for me an honourable mention among the posterity 84 Make me one of the inheritors of the Garden of Bliss 85 And forgive my father. Lo! he is of those who err. 86 Do not betray me 87 The Day when there will not benefit [anyone] wealth or children 88 Save him who bringeth unto Allah a whole heart. 89 And the Garden will be brought nigh for those who ward off (evil). 90 And the Fierce Fire shall be made apparent unto the seduced ones. 91 They will be asked: "Where are those you worshipped 92 besides God? Can they help you or even help themselves?" 93 So they will be overturned into Hellfire, they and the deviators 94 Together with the hordes of Iblis. 95 And they will say while they dispute with one another, 96 "'By Allah, we were truly in an error manifest, 97 "'When we held you as equals with the Lord of the Worlds; 98 Only the sinful ones made us go astray. 99 and we have no intercessors now, 100 nor any loving friend. 101 Would that we had a second chance [in life,] so that we could be among the believers!" 102 Verily herein is a sign, but most of them are not believers. 103 Surely, Your Lord is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 104
