And recite to them the tiding of Abraham 69 He said to his father and to his nation: 'What do you worship' 70 They said: "We worship idols, and we remain constantly in attendance on them." 71 Said he: "Do [you really think that] they hear you when you invoke them, 72 Do they help or harm you?" 73 They said: "No. But we found our fathers doing so." 74 He said: "Do ye then see whom ye have been worshipping,- 75 You and your ancient forefathers? 76 Lo! they are (all) an enemy unto me, save the Lord of the Worlds, 77 Who created me, and He doth guide me, 78 He Who feedeth me and giveth me to drink. 79 And when I am ill, it is He who cures me 80 "Who will cause me to die, and then to life (again); 81 Who, I hope, will forgive me my sins on the Day of Judgement." 82 My Lord! Bestow Hukman (religious knowledge, right judgement of the affairs and Prophethood) on me, and join me with the righteous; 83 “And give me proper fame among the succeeding generations.” 84 "Make me one of the inheritors of the Garden of Bliss; 85 “And forgive my father* – he is indeed astray.” (His paternal uncle) 86 Do not degrade me on the Day when they are resurrected. 87 The day when wealth and sons avail not (any man) 88 But to him who comes to God with a tranquil heart." 89 When Paradise shall be brought near to the God-fearing 90 and Hell shall be revealed to the misguided, 91 And it shall be said to them: Where are those that you used to worship; 92 beside Allah? Can they be of any help to you, or even be of any help to themselves?" 93 Then they shall be pitched into it, they and the perverse 94 and the army of satan will all be thrown headlong into hell. 95 And there and then, blaming one another, they [who had grievously sinned in life] will exclaim: 96 "By Allah, we were surely in clear error 97 When we equalled you with the Lord of the worlds. 98 And no one misguided us except the criminals. 99 Now we have no intercessors 100 “Nor a caring friend.” 101 Would that we had a second chance [in life,] so that we could be among the believers!" 102 In all this, behold, there is a message [unto men,] even though most of them will not believe [in it]. 103 And verily, your Lord! He is truly the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful. 104
