And recite to them the story of Ibrahim (Abraham). 69 Behold, he said to his father and his people: "What worship ye?" 70 They answered: We worship idols, and we remain ever devoted to them." 71 Abraham asked: "Do they hear when you call them? 72 or can they benefit or harm you?" 73 They replied, "But we found our fathers doing the same." 74 Said [Abraham]: "Have you, then, ever considered what it is that you have been worshipping 75 "You and your forefathers preceding you." 76 Surely they are enemies to me, but not (so) the Lord of the worlds; 77 He created me and He will guide me. 78 "And it is He Who feeds me and gives me to drink. 79 And when I am sick, then He restores me to health 80 "Who will cause me to die, and then to life (again); 81 It is He whom I expect to forgive my sins on the Day of Judgment. 82 [And he said], "My Lord, grant me authority and join me with the righteous. 83 And grant me a reputation of honor among later generations. 84 and place me amongst the inheritors of the Garden of Bliss. 85 and forgive my father, for he is one of those astray. 86 And abase me not on the day when they are raised, 87 the Day when wealth and sons will be of no avail, 88 Except him who comes to Allah with a heart free (from evil). 89 And Paradise will be brought near [that Day] to the righteous. 90 and the Fire will be uncovered for those who strayed, 91 It will be said to them: 'Where is that you worshipped, 92 besides God? Will the idols help you? Can they help themselves?" 93 "Then they will be thrown headlong into the (Fire),- they and those straying in Evil, 94 and Satan's legions, all together. 95 They will dispute between themselves therein, and will say, 96 By Allah, we were truly in a manifest error, 97 When we made you equal with the Lord of the Worlds. 98 And none but the guilty led us astray; 99 "'Now, then, we have none to intercede (for us), 100 "'Nor a single friend to feel (for us). 101 Then if we only had a return [to the world] and could be of the believers... " 102 Verily there is a sign in this, but many of them do not believe. 103 Verily Your Lord is Immensely Mighty, Ever Compassionate. 104
