And recite to them the news of Ibrahim. 69 when he asked his father and his people: "What do you worship?" 70 They said: We worship idols, and are ever devoted unto them. 71 He asked: "Do they hear you when you call them 72 or do they cause you any benefit or harm?" 73 They answered: "No; but we found our forefathers doing so." 74 Abraham said, "Have you really thought about what you have been worshipping, 75 you, and your elderly fathers? 76 they are all my enemies, not so the Lord of the Universe, 77 Who created me and showed me the way, 78 And He Who gives me to eat and gives me to drink: 79 He who cures me when I am ill; 80 And He Who will cause me to die, then give me life; 81 and who I am eager shall forgive me my offence on the Day of Doom. 82 "O my Sustainer! Endow me with the ability to judge [between right and wrong,] and make me one with the righteous, 83 And uphold my name with posterity, 84 And make me one of the inheritors of the Paradise of Delight; 85 and forgive my father for he is among those who strayed, 86 Do not betray me 87 the day when neither wealth nor sons shall profit 88 but only he that brings to Allah a sound heart will (attain to success)." 89 And the Garden shall be brought nigh to the God-fearing. 90 and the Fire will be uncovered for those who strayed, 91 They will be asked: "Where are those you worshipped 92 apart from God? Do they help you or help themselves?' 93 "Then they will be thrown headlong into the (Fire),- they and those straying in Evil, 94 and so too the hosts of Iblis, all of them. 95 "Quarrelling therein with each other, 96 'By Allah, we were certainly in clear error, 97 when we made you equal with the Lord of the Universe. 98 It was naught but the sinners that led us astray; 99 We have no intercessors now, 100 and no sincere friend. 101 Would that we might return again, and be among the believers' 102 Indeed in this is a sign; and most of them were not believers. 103 And verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful. 104
