(The tribe of) A'ad denied the messengers (of Allah). 123 when their brother Hud said unto them: "Will you not be conscious of God? 124 I have been sent as a trusted messenger to you. 125 So fear Allah and obey me. 126 "No reward do I ask of you for it (my Message of Islamic Monotheism), my reward is only from the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns, and all that exists). 127 "Do you build high palaces on every high place, while you do not live in them? 128 And take ye for yourselves castles that haply ye may abide. 129 and when you strike you strike like tyrants? 130 So fear Allah and obey me. 131 "And keep your duty to Him, fear Him Who has aided you with all (good things) that you know. 132 "He has aided you with cattle and children. 133 gardens, and springs. 134 Indeed, I fear for you the punishment of a dreadful Day' 135 They said: It is the same to us whether you admonish or are not one of the admonishers 136 This is not but the custom of the former peoples, 137 We will not be subjected to any chastisement." 138 And so they gave him the lie: and thereupon We destroyed them. In this [story,] behold, there is a message [unto men,] even though most of them will not believe [in it]. 139 Yet surely your Lord is mighty and merciful. 140
