Samood gave the lie to the apostles 141 when their brother Salih said unto them: "Will you not be conscious of God? 142 Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger. 143 "So fear Allah, and obey me. 144 "And no reward whatever do I ask of you for it: my reward rests with none but the Sustainer of all the worlds. 145 Will you be left secure in this here, 146 In gardens and watersprings. 147 sown fields and palmtrees, with slender spathes. 148 “And you carve out dwellings in the mountains, with skill?” 149 "But fear Allah and obey me; 150 And obey not the command of the extravagant. 151 and spread mischief in the land rather than set things right." 152 They replied: 'Surely, you are one of those bewitched. 153 You are nothing but a man like us. Bring us a token if you speak the truth." 154 Replied he: "This she-camel shall have a share of water, and you shall have a share of water, on the days appointed [therefor]; 155 And do not touch her with harm, lest you be seized by the punishment of a terrible day." 156 But they cruelly slaughtered her - and then they had cause to regret it: 157 and torment struck them. In this there is evidence of the Truth, yet many people do not have any faith. 158 Your Lord is the Mighty One, the Merciful. 159
