Thamud denied the messengers 141 When their fellowman Saleh said to them, “Do you not fear?” 142 Verily I am unto you an apostle trusted. 143 "So fear Allah, and obey me. 144 "And no reward whatever do I ask of you for it: my reward rests with none but the Sustainer of all the worlds. 145 "Do you think that you will be left secure [forever] in the midst of what you have here and now? 146 "In gardens and springs. 147 and fields, and [these] palm-trees with slender spathes? 148 hewing out houses in the mountains and taking pride in your skill? 149 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 150 And obey not the command of the extravagant. 151 who do corruption in the earth, and set not things aright.' 152 They said, 'Thou art merely one of those that are bewitched; 153 You are nothing but a man like us. Bring us a token if you speak the truth." 154 Replied he: "This she-camel shall have a share of water, and you shall have a share of water, on the days appointed [therefor]; 155 and do her no harm, lest suffering befall you on an awesome day!" 156 But they cruelly slaughtered her - and then they had cause to regret it: 157 The punishment therefore seized them; indeed in this is a sign; and most of them were not believers. 158 Verily Your Lord is Immensely Mighty, Most Compassionate. 159
