Thamood, belied their Messengers. 141 When their brother Salih said to them, "Will you not fear Allah? 142 I am for you an honest Messenger. 143 So fear Allah, and obey me. 144 "No reward do I ask of you for it: my reward is only from the Lord of the Worlds. 145 Will you be left secure in what is here; 146 “In gardens and water springs?” 147 The fields of corn and date-palm trees with soft and tender spathes, 148 Will you still skilfully hew houses out of the mountains? 149 So fear you God, and obey you me; 150 And do not obey the order of the transgressors, 151 those who spread corruption on earth instead of setting things to rights!" 152 They replied: "You are nothing but one of those who are bewitched; 153 You are naught but a mortal like ourselves; so bring a sign if you are one of the truthful. 154 He said: (Behold) this she-camel. She hath the right to drink (at the well), and ye have the right to drink, (each) on an appointed day. 155 and do not touch her with malice so that there seize you the chastisement of a dreadful day.' 156 Yet they hamstrung her, and in the morning they were remorseful, 157 But the Penalty seized them. Verily in this is a Sign: but most of them do not believe. 158 And lo! thy Lord! He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful. 159
