The Thamud (people) rejected the messengers. 141 When their brother Salih (Saleh) said to them: "Will you not fear Allah and obey Him? 142 I am for you an honest Messenger. 143 so fear you God, and obey you me.' 144 "No reward do I ask of you for it (my Message of Islamic Monotheism), my reward is only from the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists). 145 "Do you think that you will be left secure [forever] in the midst of what you have here and now? 146 "In gardens and springs. 147 And green crops (fields etc.) and date-palms with soft spadix. 148 hewing out houses in the mountains and taking pride in your skill? 149 So be mindful of God and listen to me. 150 and do not follow the biddings of those that go to excesses 151 Who make mischief in the land and do not act aright. 152 They said, "You are only bewitched and insane. 153 You are only a human being like ourselves. Show us a sign, if you are telling the truth." 154 He said, "This is a she-camel. For her is a [time of] drink, and for you is a [time of] drink, [each] on a known day. 155 Do not cause her to suffer lest you become subject to the torment of the great day (of Judgment)." 156 But they hamstrung her, then regretted; 157 So the punishment overtook them. Most surely there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe. 158 And verily thy Lord! He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 159
