The Thamud tribe denied the Noble Messengers. 141 When their brother Salih said unto them: Will ye not ward off (evil)? 142 I am a trustworthy Messengers sent to you. 143 So fear Allah and obey me. 144 'I ask of you no wage for this; my wage falls only upon the Lord of all Being. 145 (Do you think) you will be left secure here 146 amidst [these] gardens and springs 147 "And corn-fields and date-palms with spathes near breaking (with the weight of fruit)? 148 And you hew houses out of the mountains exultingly; 149 Therefore guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me; 150 and pay no heed to the counsel of those who are given to excesses 151 "Who make mischief in the land, and mend not (their ways)." 152 They replied: "You are nothing but one of those who are bewitched; 153 You are only a human being like ourselves. Show us a sign, if you are telling the truth." 154 He said, 'This is a she-camel; to her a draught and to you a draught, on a day appointed, 155 so do her no harm, or the punishment of an awful day will befall you." 156 They slew the she-camel, but later became regretful 157 and the chastisement seized them. Surely in that is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 158 Your Lord, He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 159
