The tribe of Thamud also rejected the messengers. 141 When their fellowman Saleh said to them, “Do you not fear?” 142 I am a trustworthy Messengers sent to you. 143 “Therefore fear Allah and obey me.” 144 'I ask of you no wage for this; my wage falls only upon the Lord of all Being. 145 (Do you think) you will be left secure here 146 In these gardens and these springs, 147 And cornfields and palm-trees having fine spadices? 148 Though ye hew out dwellings in the mountain, being skilful? 149 “Therefore fear Allah and obey me.” 150 and pay no heed to the counsel of those who are given to excesses 151 Who make mischief in the land and do not act aright. 152 They said: "Thou art only one of those bewitched! 153 "Thou art no more than a mortal like us: then bring us a Sign, if thou tellest the truth!" 154 He said: (Behold) this she-camel. She hath the right to drink (at the well), and ye have the right to drink, (each) on an appointed day. 155 Do not molest her lest the chastisement of an Awesome Day should seize you." 156 But they hamstrung her; and on the morrow were repentant, 157 So the chastisement seized them. Surely there is a Sign in this, but most of them would not believe. 158 Your Lord is the Mighty One, the Merciful. 159
