(The tribe of) Thamud denied the messengers (of Allah) 141 When their brother Salih said to them, "Will you not fear God? 142 Truly, I am a trustworthy messenger for you, 143 So fear Allah, and obey me. 144 I ask of you no reward. My reward is with none but the Lord of the Universe. 145 Will you be left secure in this here, 146 Within gardens and springs 147 "And corn-fields and date-palms with spathes near breaking (with the weight of fruit)? 148 And hew ye out houses in the mountains skilfully! 149 Therefore guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me; 150 "And follow not the bidding of those who are extravagant,- 151 “Those who spread turmoil in the earth, and do no reform.” 152 They said: "Thou art only one of those bewitched! 153 You are a mere mortal like us. Show us a miracle if you are telling the Truth". 154 He said: "Here is a she-camel: she has a right of watering, and ye have a right of watering, (severally) on a day appointed. 155 And touch her not with ill lest there come on you the retribution of an awful day. 156 Yet they hamstrung her, and then they became regretful: 157 So the punishment overtook them. Most surely there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe. 158 Verily Your Lord is Immensely Mighty, Most Compassionate. 159
