Thamood cried lies to the Envoys 141 When their brother Salih said to them: Will you not guard (against evil)? 142 Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you, 143 so fear God and obey me. 144 'I ask of you no wage for this; my wage falls only upon the Lord of all Being. 145 Do you think that you will be left secure [forever] -- 146 amidst gardens and springs 147 and fields, and [these] palm-trees with slender spathes? 148 Will you still hew your dwellings in the mountains? 149 Fear Allah and obey me 150 and do not follow the biddings of those that go to excesses 151 those who spread corruption in the land instead of putting things right." 152 They said, 'Thou art merely one of those that are bewitched; 153 you are no different from a mortal like us. So produce a sign if you are truthful." 154 He said: (Behold) this she-camel. She hath the right to drink (at the well), and ye have the right to drink, (each) on an appointed day. 155 “And do not touch her with evil intentions for the punishment of the Great Day will seize you.” 156 But they cruelly slaughtered her - and then they had cause to regret it: 157 so the punishment came down upon them. Surely in that there is a sign, but most of them would not believe. 158 Your Lord is Majestic and All-merciful. 159
