Stories (Al-Qasas)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ta. Sin. Mim. 1 These are the verses of the illustrious Book. 2 We recite unto thee of the story of Musa and Fir'awn with truth for a people who believe. 3 Now Pharaoh had exalted himself in the land and had divided its inhabitants into sects, abasing one party of them, slaughtering their sons, and sparing their women; for he was of the workers of corruption. 4 We wanted to bestow favour on those who were oppressed in the land. We wanted to make them leaders and heirs 5 and to give them power in the land; and to show Pharaoh and Haman and their hosts that very thing which they feared. 6 So We conveyed to the mother of Moses: "Suckle him. If you are afraid for him, cast him in the river without any fear or regret, for We shall restore him to you, and make him an apostle." 7 Then Pharaoh's household picked him up -- later to become for them an enemy and a source of grief for them: Pharaoh and Haman and their hosts were wrongdoers -- 8 And the wife of Fir'awn said: a comfort unto me and thee slay him not! belike he shall be of benefit to us or we might take him for a son; and they perceived not. 9 In the morning the heart of Moses' mother became empty. She would have revealed (who he was) had We not settled her heart so that she might be among the believers. 10 And she said unto his sister: Trace him. So she observed him from afar, and they perceived not. 11 ۞ Now from the very beginning We caused him to refuse the breast of [Egyptian] nurses; and [when his sister came to know this,] she said: "Shall I guide you to a family that might rear him for you, and look after him with good will?" 12 Thus did We return Moses to his mother that We would delight her eyes, relieve her sorrows, and let her know that the promise of God was true, but many people do not know. 13
