The Arrangers (Al-Saaffaat)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
CONSIDER these [messages] ranged in serried ranks, 1 and restraining [from evil] by a call to restraint, 2 And by oath of the groups that read the Qur’an. 3 Verily, most surely, your God is One 4 Lord of the heavens and the earth and everything between them; Lord of the Easts. 5 He decked the nearest heavens with ornaments of stars, 6 and guarded it against all rebellious devils: 7 They cannot listen to the higher group (angels) for they are pelted from every side. 8 and driven away to suffer the necessary torment. 9 Except such as snatch away something by stealth, and they are pursued by a flaming fire, of piercing brightness. 10 So ask them (that is, human beings): “Were they harder to create than the objects We created?” We created them from sticky clay. 11 Rather you are surprised, whereas they keep mocking. 12 And when they are reminded, they remember not. 13 And, when they see a Sign, turn it to mockery, 14 And they say: This is nothing but clear magic: 15 When we are dead and turned to dust and bones, how can we be raised again, 16 And so also shall our forefathers of yore be raised to life?” 17 You say: "Yes; and you will be lowly made." 18 It will be only one shout, and at once they will be observing. 19 They will say, "Woe to us! This is the Day of Reckoning." 20 'This is the Day of Decision, even that you cried lies to. 21
