۞ “Gather all the unjust persons and their spouses, and all that they used to worship!” – 22 other than Allah, and guide them to the Path of Hell! 23 "But stop them, verily they are to be questioned. 24 "What is the matter with you? Why do you not help one another (as you used to do in the world)?" 25 No, today they will resign themselves in submission, 26 They will then turn towards each other (and start wrangling). 27 These say, 'Why, you of old would come to us from the right hand.' 28 They will reply: "Nay, ye yourselves had no Faith! 29 we had no power over you; but you yourselves were a rebellious people. 30 Now the Word of our Lord hath been fulfilled concerning us. Lo! we are about to taste (the doom). 31 "So we led you astray because we were ourselves astray." 32 On that Day they will all share the punishment: 33 Surely thus do We deal with the guilty. 34 For they, when they were told that there is no god except Allah, would puff themselves up with Pride, 35 And say: "What! shall we give up our gods for the sake of a Poet possessed?" 36 No, indeed, he has brought the truth, and confirmed the Messengers. 37 Lo! (now) verily ye taste the painful doom - 38 and will be recompensed only for what you deserve. 39 Except the chosen creatures of God, 40 shall have a known provision -- 41 Fruits. And they will be honoured 42 in the Gardens of Bliss 43 Facing one another on thrones. 44 Round shall be passed a cup unto them filled with limpid drink: 45 White, a pleasure unto the drinkers. 46 no headiness will be in it, and they will not get drunk thereon. 47 And with them are those who do not set gaze upon men except their husbands, the maidens with gorgeous eyes. 48 [as free of faults] as if they were hidden [ostrich] eggs. 49 And they will all turn to one another, asking each other [about their past lives]. 50 One of them will say: 'I had a companion 51 who would say, "Are you a confirmer? 52 [that] after we have died and become mere dust and bones we shall, forsooth, be brought to judgment?"' 53 He will say: -- Do you wish to know where he is now?' 54 So he looked down and saw him in the midst of the Fire. 55 He said, “By Allah, you had nearly ruined me!” 56 Had I not the guidance of my Lord, I would certainly have been brought into torment". 57 “So are we never to die?” (The people of Paradise will ask the angels, with delight, after the announcement of everlasting life.) 58 except for our first death? Are we not going to be punished? 59 Truly, this is a great victory!" 60 For the like of this, then, let them labour, those who labour [in God's way]! 61 Is this better as a welcome, or the tree of Zaqqum? 62 We have indeed made that a punishment for the unjust. 63 Verily, it is a tree that springs out of the bottom of Hell-fire, 64 The shoots of its fruit-stalks are like the heads of devils: 65 And lo! they verily must eat thereof, and fill (their) bellies therewith. 66 And behold, above all this they will be confounded with burning despair! 67 And thereafter verily their return is unto the Flaming Fire. 68 They had found their fathers astray, 69 So in their footsteps they are being hastened on. 70 And there had already strayed before them most of the former peoples, 71 and We had sent among them Messengers to warn them. 72 Then see the nature of the consequence for those warned, 73 Save single-minded slaves of Allah. 74
