Thamud denied the messengers 141 when their brother Salih said to them, 'Will you not be godfearing? 142 Truly, I am a trustworthy messenger for you, 143 So fear Allah, and obey me. 144 And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds. 145 Shall ye be left secure in that which is here before us. 146 Within gardens and springs 147 sown fields and palmtrees, with slender spathes. 148 You hew dwellings in mountains and exult in that. 149 Fear Allah and obey me 150 and pay no heed to the counsel of those who are given to excesses 151 those who spread corruption in the land instead of putting things right." 152 They said: thou art but one of the bewitched; 153 Thou art nothing but a mortal like ourselves! Come, then, forward with a token [of thy mission] if thou art a man of truth!" 154 He said, "Here is a she-camel. She shall have her turn of drinking, as you have yours, each on an appointed day, 155 Do not molest her lest the chastisement of an Awesome Day should seize you." 156 But they killed her, and then they became regretful. 157 For they were seized by the torment. Verily there was a sign in this, but most of them did not believe. 158 Verily Your Lord is Immensely Mighty, Most Compassionate. 159
