۞ [And God will thus command:] "Assemble all those who were bent on evildoing, together with others of their ilk and [with] all that they were wont to worship 22 “Instead of Allah – and herd them to the path leading to hell.” 23 "But stop them, verily they are to be questioned. 24 They will be asked, "Why do you not help each other?" 25 Nay, but that Day they shall surrender, 26 And they will turn to one another, and question one another. 27 "It was you who tried to mislead us from righteousness". 28 They answer: Nay, but ye (yourselves) were not believers. 29 we had no authority over you; no, you were an insolent people. 30 and so we became deserving of the Word of our Lord that we shall be made to suffer chastisement. 31 So we led you astray, for we ourselves were erring. 32 So all of them on that day are sharers in the chastisement. 33 Surely thus do We deal with the guilty. 34 For when it was said to them: 'There is no god except Allah' they were always proud 35 and replied, "Shall we then give up our deities at the bidding of a mad poet?" 36 In fact, he had brought them the truth and had acknowledged the Messengers (who were sent before him). 37 Indeed, you [disbelievers] will be tasters of the painful punishment, 38 “And you will not be compensated except for your deeds.” 39 But for the sincere worshipers of Allah, 40 Those! theirs shall be a provision known: 41 fruits -- and they high-honoured 42 (They will live) in the bountiful gardens, 43 upon couches, set face to face, 44 a cup filled with wine from its springs, will be passed around to them; 45 clear, delightful to those who drink it: 46 Free from headiness; nor will they suffer intoxication therefrom. 47 and with them wide-eyed maidens restraining their glances 48 As if they were eggs carefully protected. 49 And some of them draw near unto others, mutually questioning. 50 And a speaker from among them will say: verily there was unto me a mate. 51 Who used to say: "Are you among those who believe (in resurrection after death). 52 After we are dead and have become all dust and bones shall we still be requited?' 53 [And] he adds: "Would you like to look [and see him]?" 54 Then he looks, and sees him in the midst of Hell. 55 He said: "By Allah! thou wast little short of bringing me to perdition! 56 "Had it not been for the Grace of my Lord, I should certainly have been among those brought (there)! 57 Is it then that we are not going to die, 58 Other than our first death, and we shall not be punished? 59 This is certainly the greatest triumph 60 For the like of this then let the workers work. 61 Is that (Paradise) better entertainment or the tree of Zaqqum (a horrible tree in Hell)? 62 Surely We have made it to be a trial to the unjust. 63 Verily, it is a tree that springs out of the bottom of Hell-fire, 64 and its fruits are like devils' heads. 65 They will eat from it and fill their bellies with it; 66 Then on top of that they will be given a mixture made of boiling water. 67 then their return is to Hell. 68 Verily they found their fathers gone astray. 69 But they make haste (to follow) in their footsteps. 70 And there had already strayed before them most of the former peoples, 71 But We sent aforetime, among them, (messengers) to admonish them;- 72 Observe, then, what was the end of those that had been warned, 73 except the sincere worshipers of Allah. 74
