Jonah was certainly a Messenger. 139 [Mention] when he ran away to the laden ship. 140 And he drew lots and was among the losers. 141 [and they cast him into the sea,] whereupon the great fish swallowed him, for he had been blameworthy. 142 Now had he not been of those that glorify God, 143 He would have indeed remained inside its belly (the fish) till the Day of Resurrection. 144 ۞ We cast him out of the fish unto dry land and he was sick. 145 And We caused to grow up for him a gourdplant. 146 And We sent him to a hundred thousand, rather they exceeded. 147 They believed in him so We granted them enjoyment for an appointed time. 148 AND NOW ask them to enlighten thee: Has thy Sustainer daughters, whereas they would have [only] sons? 149 Or did We create the angels as females while they were witnesses?" 150 Pay heed! It is their slander that they say. – 151 'Allah has begotten' They are truly liars. 152 Did He choose daughters rather than sons? 153 What is the matter with you, how is it that you judge? 154 Why do you not reflect? 155 Or, do you have a clear authority? 156 Then bring your scripture, if what you say is true. 157 They have said that there is a relationship between Him and the jinn. The jinn certainly know that they will all be brought to suffer torment. 158 God is too glorious for what they ascribe to Him 159 Except the chosen bondmen of Allah. 160 for, verily, neither you [blasphemers] nor the objects of your worship 161 you shall not tempt any against Him 162 except him who shall roast in Hell. 163 There is not one of us but hath his known position. 164 We stand in ranks (for prayer) 165 And verily we! we hallow. 166 And surely they used to say: 167 'If only we had a reminder from the ancients, 168 we would certainly be true servants of God." 169 But they disbelieved in it, so they are going to know. 170 Our Word had already preceded Our worshipers, the Messengers, 171 That they verily would be helped, 172 and that it is Our host that would certainly triumph. 173 So turn (away) from them for a while. 174 and see, and soon they too shall see. 175 So are they being impatient for Our punishment? 176 When it lights in their courtyard, how evil will be the morning of them that are warned! 177 Leave them alone for a while, 178 And watch and they shall see (the torment)! 179 Exalted be your Lord, the Lord of Glory, above what they attribute to Him, 180 And peace be unto the sent ones. 181 And praise be to Allah, Lord of the Worlds! 182
