Verily Jonah is one of the apostles. 139 He fled to the overloaded ship. 140 and sailed away in a laden ship, wherein people cast lots. Because he lost, he was thrown into the water. 141 [and they cast him into the sea,] whereupon the great fish swallowed him, for he had been blameworthy. 142 And had he not been of those who exalt Allah, 143 He would have stayed in its belly till the day the dead are raised. 144 ۞ So We cast him, sick, on a barren shore, 145 And We caused a plant of gourd to grow over him. 146 And We had sent him to a hundred thousand: rather they exceeded. 147 And they came to believe; so We allowed them to enjoy the good things of life for an age. 148 Now ask thou them: are there for thy Lord daughters and for them sons? 149 Or created We the angels females while they were present? 150 Unquestionably, it is out of their [invented] falsehood that they say, 151 'God has begotten a son.' They are certainly liars. 152 Has He chosen daughters over sons? 153 What is the matter with you, how is it that you judge? 154 Will ye not then be admonished? 155 Or have you a clear authority? 156 “Then bring forth your Book, if you are truthful!” 157 They claim that He has kinship with the jinn, yet the jinn themselves know that they will be produced before Him [for judgement]. 158 Glorified be Allah from that which they attribute (unto Him), 159 but not so the true servants of God, 160 Lo! verily, ye and that which ye worship, 161 Can lead (any) into temptation concerning Allah, 162 except him who shall roast in Hell. 163 And there is none of us but has an assigned place, 164 We are surely those who are arranged in ranks. 165 and, verily, we too extol His limitless glory!" 166 They say, 167 'If only we had a reminder from the ancients, 168 "We should certainly have been Servants of Allah, sincere (and devoted)!" 169 but they have rejected it, [the Quran] and they shall soon learn! 170 We decreed that Our Messenger servants 171 [That] indeed, they would be those given victory 172 And that Our hosts, they verily would be the victors. 173 So turn thou aside from them for a season. 174 and see, and soon they too shall see. 175 Our torment seek they to hasten on! 176 So when it does descend in their courtyards – so what an evil morning it will be for those who were warned! 177 And turn away from them till a time 178 And watch, for they will soon see. 179 Your Lord, the Lord of Honor, is too exalted to be considered as they describe Him. 180 And peace be on the apostles. 181 And all praise to God, the Lord of all the worlds. 182
