S (Saad)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Sad, and by the Qur'an full of exhortation! 1 Nay, those who desbelieve are in false pride and opposition. 2 How many ancient generations did We destroy? (On facing Our torment) they cried out for help, but it was too late for them to escape. 3 Now these [people] deem it strange that a warner should have come unto them from their own midst - and [so] the deniers of the truth are saying: "A [mere] spellbinder is he, a liar! 4 "Has he made the gods (all) into one Allah? Truly this is a wonderful thing!" 5 And their leading chiefs said: "Remain attached to your gods. There is surely some motive behind it. 6 Never did we hear of [a claim like] this in any faith of latter days! It is nothing but [a mortal man's] invention! 7 Can it be that he alone has received the Quran?" In fact, they have doubts about My Quran and this is because they have not yet faced (My) torment. 8 Or have they the treasures of the Mercy of your Lord, the All-Mighty, the Real Bestower? 9 Or is it that the dominion of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them is theirs? If so, let them ascend up with means (to the heavens)! 10 [They are but] soldiers [who will be] defeated there among the companies [of disbelievers]. 11 The folk of Noah before them denied (their messenger) and (so did the tribe of) A'ad, and Pharaoh firmly planted, 12 And Thamud, and the people of Lout (Lot), and the dwellers of the wood; such were the confederates. 13 There was none of them but called the apostles liars, so just was My retribution. 14
