It is God [alone that has this power - He] who causes all human beings to die at the time of their [bodily] death, and [causes to be as dead,] during their sleep, those that have not yet died: thus, He withholds [from life] those upon whom He has decreed death, and lets the others go free for a term set [by Him]. In [all] this, behold, there are messages indeed for people who think! 42 Or have they taken other than Allah as intercessors? Say, "Even though they do not possess [power over] anything, nor do they reason?" 43 Say: "To Allah belongs exclusively (the right to grant) intercession: to Him belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth: In the End, it is to Him that ye shall be brought back." 44 And when Allah alone is mentioned, the hearts of those who believe not in the Hereafter are repelled, and when those (whom they worship) beside Him are mentioned, behold! they are glad. 45 Say, "Lord, the Creator of the heavens and the earth, knower of the seen and unseen, it is You who will issue Your decree about the differences of Your servants." 46 If the wrongdoers possessed all that is on earth, and twice as much, they would offer it to redeem themselves from the awful suffering on the Day of Resurrection. For God will show them what they had never anticipated, 47 The evil consequences of their deeds will become fully apparent to them, and what they had scoffed at will encompass them. 48 When hurt toucheth a man he calleth on us, and thereafter, when We have changed it unto a favour from Us, he saith: I have been given it so only by force of my knowledge. Aye! it is a trial, but most of them know not. 49 Thus did the (generations) before them say! But all that they did was of no profit to them. 50 So there befell them the evil (consequences) of what they earned; and (as for) those who are unjust from among these, there shall befall them the evil (consequences) of what they earn, and they shall not escape. 51 Do they not know that Allah enlarges and straitens the provision of whomsoever He pleases? Therein are Signs for those that believe. 52
