And when Abraham said unto his father and his folk: Lo! I am innocent of what ye worship 26 except the One Who created me; and, behold, it is He Who will direct me to the Right Way.” 27 And he left it as a Word to endure among those who came after him, that they may turn back (to Allah). 28 However, I gave enjoyment to these [people of Makkah] and their fathers until there came to them the truth and a clear Messenger. 29 And when there came to them the truth they said: This is magic, and surely we are disbelievers in it. 30 And they said, "Why was this Qur'an not sent down upon a great man from [one of] the two cities?" 31 Do they distribute the mercy of your Lord? It is We who have distributed their sustenance in this world and raised the positions of some of them above the others so that they would mock each other. The mercy of your Lord is better than what they can amass. 32 Were it not that all mankind would become a single community (and follow the same way), We would have provided for all those who disbelieve in the Merciful One silver roofs for their houses, and (silver) stairs on which to go up, 33 And for their houses - doors and couches [of silver] upon which to recline 34 And ornament of gold. And yet all that would have been but a provision of the life of the world; and the Hereafter with thy Lord is for the Godfearing. 35
