As for one who turns away from the remembrance of the Gracious God, We appoint for him a devil, who will become his intimate companion. 36 And verily they hinder them from the way, whilst they deem that they are rightly guided. 37 Till, when he cometh unto Us, he saith (unto his comrade): Ah, would that between me and thee there were the distance of the two horizons - an evil comrade! 38 (It will be said to them) “And you will not benefit from them this day, whereas you are unjust – for you are all partners in the punishment.” 39 What, will you make the deaf hear, or guide the blind and he who is in clear error? 40 We shall inflict retribution on them, whether We take you away from the world (before We do that), 41 Or show you some of what We have promised them. They are certainly well within Our power. 42 Therefore hold fast to that which has been revealed to you; surely you are on the right path. 43 And verily it is an admonition unto thee and thy people; and presently ye will be questioned. 44 And ask those of Our messengers whom We sent before thee: Did We ever appoint gods to be worshipped beside the Beneficent? 45
