We sent Moses with Our signs to Pharaoh and his Council, and he said: 'I am the Messenger of the Lord of the Worlds' 46 But when he brought to them Our signs they laughed at them, 47 And We did not show them a sign but it was greater than its like, and We overtook them with chastisement that they may turn. 48 They said, "Magician, pray to your Lord for us through your covenant with Him (If he saves us from the torment), we shall certainly seek guidance". 49 But when We removed from them the chastisement, behold, they broke their troth. 50 Then Pharaoh made a proclamation to his people: 'My people, is the kingdom of Egypt not mine and these rivers which flow beneath me? What, can you not see? 51 “Or that I am better than him, for he is lowly – and he does not seem to talk plainly.” 52 "And then - why have no golden armlets been bestowed on him? or why have no angels come together with him?" 53 He (Pharaoh) intimidated his nation, so they obeyed him, for they were a sinning nation. 54 So when they made Us wrathful, We took revenge from them – We therefore drowned all of them. 55 And We made them a thing past, and an example for those after (them). 56
