Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ha-Mim. [These letters are one of the miracles of the Quran and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings]. 1 By the Clear Book. 2 Surely We revealed it on a blessed night surely We are ever warning-- 3 On which all affairs are sorted out and decided 4 an order from Us. We are ever sending. 5 As mercy from your Lord. Indeed, He is the Hearing, the Knowing. 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatsoever is in-between the twain, if only ye would be convinced. 7 There is no god other than He, who gives you life and death, your Lord and the Lord of your fathers of old. 8 Yet they are in doubt, playing. 9 Therefore keep waiting for the day when the heaven shall bring an evident smoke, 10 That will envelop the people. This will be a painful torment. 11 (They will say:) "Our Lord! remove the Penalty from us, for we do really believe!" 12 How can they benefit from admonition, seeing that a messenger had already come to them explaining things clearly? 13 Yet they turn away from him and say: "Tutored (by others), a man possessed!" 14 Verily, We shall remove the torment for a while. Verily! You will revert. 15 The Day We will strike with the greatest assault, indeed, We will take retribution. 16 ۞ And We had already tried before them the people of Pharaoh, and there came to them a noble messenger, 17 Saying: "Restore to me the slaves of Allah (i.e. the Children of Israel). Verily! I am to you a Messenger worthy of all trust, 18 Do not rise up against Allah, I come to you with clear authority. 19 “And I take the refuge of my Lord and yours, against your stoning me.” 20 And if ye will not believe in me, then let me alone. 21 Then he cried out to his Lord, "These are sinful people." 22 "Journey by night with My devotees," (it was said); "you will certainly be pursued. 23 And leave the sea in stillness. Indeed, they are an army to be drowned." 24 How many were the gardens, springs, 25 and sown fields and splendid mansions, 26 and the life of ease in which they took delight! 27 Thus it was; and We made another people inherit all that. 28 So the heaven and the earth did not weep for them, nor were they respited. 29
