Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Ha-Mim. 1 By the Clear Book. 2 Surely We revealed it on a blessed night surely We are ever warning-- 3 Therein (that night) is decreed every matter of ordainments. 4 As a command from Our presence - Lo! We are ever sending - 5 A mercy from your Lord. Verily He is all-hearing and all-knowing, 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and that between them, if you would be certain. 7 There is no god but He: It is He Who gives life and gives death,- The Lord and Cherisher to you and your earliest ancestors. 8 Aye! they're in doubt sporting. 9 Then watch for the Day when the sky will bring a visible smoke. 10 which will smother the people. They will say, "This is a painful torment. 11 O our Sustainer, relieve us of suffering, for, verily, we [now] believe [in Thee]!" 12 How can a warning benefit them? The Apostle who explained all things clearly had come to them, 13 but then they turned away from him, saying: 'He is tutored, mad' 14 Verily, We shall remove the torment for a while. Verily! You will revert. 15 on the Day when We shall seize [all sinners] with a most mighty onslaught, We shall, verily, inflict Our retribution [on you as well]! 16 ۞ And We had already tried before them the people of Pharaoh, and there came to them a noble messenger, 17 Saying: Give up to me the slaves of Allah. Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you. 18 And saying, “And do not rebel against Allah; I have brought a clear proof to you.” 19 And indeed, I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you stone me. 20 And if you do not believe in me, then leave me alone. 21 (But they were aggressive:) then he cried to his Lord: "These are indeed a people given to sin." 22 Then (his Lord commanded): Take away My slaves by night. Lo! ye will be followed, 23 Leave the sea behind you parted; they are a host destined to be drowned." 24 How many were the gardens, springs, 25 And crops and noble sites 26 and pleasant things in which they delighted! 27 Even so; and We bequeathed them upon another people. 28 Neither heaven nor earth shed tears for them; nor were they respited, 29
