Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By oath of the (particular) dawn. 1 And by oath of ten nights. 2 and the even and the odd, 3 and by the passing night, 4 Is this not a sufficient oath for intelligent people? 5 Dost thou not consider how thy Lord dealt with (the tribe of) A'ad, 6 (And) the tall giants of Iram? 7 the like of which has never been created in the land, 8 and with [the tribe of] Thamud, who hollowed out rocks in the valley? 9 And Pharaoh, of the pegs (impaling his victims)? 10 [It was they] who transgressed all bounds of equity all over their lands, 11 And made therein much mischief. 12 and therefore thy Sustainer let loose upon them a scourge of suffering: 13 Truly your Lord is ever watchful. 14 Now, as for man, when his Lord trieth him, giving him honour and gifts, then saith he, (puffed up), "My Lord hath honoured me." 15 But when He tries him and restricts his provision, he says, "My Lord has humiliated me." 16 No indeed; but you honour not the orphan, 17 and you urge not the feeding of the needy, 18 And you devour (others') inheritance greedily, 19 And you love wealth with much love! 20 When the earth is crushed into small pieces 21 And thy Lord cometh, and His angels, rank upon rank, 22 and Hell is made to appear on that Day, then man will be mindful, but what will being mindful then avail him? 23 He will say, "Would that I had done some good deeds for this life". 24 None punisheth as He will punish on that day! 25 And no one shall bind with (anything like) His binding. 26 [But to the righteous, God will say], "O soul at peace, 27 Return towards your Lord – you being pleased with Him, and He pleased with you! 28 Enter among My servants 29 and enter My Paradise.” 30
