Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Ha. Mim. 1 By the clear Book, 2 Surely We revealed it on a blessed night surely We are ever warning-- 3 During it are distributed all the works of wisdom. 4 As commands from Us. It is indeed We who send (messengers), 5 A mercy from your Lord. Verily He is all-hearing and all-knowing, 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and what is between them, if you would be sure. 7 there is no deity save Him: It is He who gives both life and death -- He is your Lord, and the Lord of your forefathers, 8 Yet they are in doubt, playing. 9 Watch for the Day when the heaven will bring clear smoke, 10 enveloping all mankind, [and causing the sinners to exclaim:] "Grievous is this suffering! 11 Our Lord! remove from us the punishment; surely we are believers. 12 How will there be for them a reminder [at that time]? And there had come to them a clear Messenger. 13 And they had turned away from him and said: One taught (by others), a madman? 14 Were We to ease the torment for a while, you would still revert to denial of the truth. 15 On the Day when We shall seize you with the greatest grasp. Verily, We will exact retribution. 16 ۞ And We had already tried before them the people of Pharaoh, and there came to them a noble messenger, 17 Who said, “Give the bondmen of Allah into my custody; I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger for you.” 18 And [saying], "Be not haughty with Allah. Indeed, I have come to you with clear authority. 19 And verily I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord lest ye stone me. 20 And if you do not believe in me, then leave me alone. 21 (But they were aggressive), so he [Musa (Moses)] called upon his Lord (saying): "These are indeed the people who are Mujrimun (disbelievers, polytheists, sinners, criminals, etc.)." 22 Then (his Lord commanded): Take away My slaves by night. Lo! ye will be followed, 23 and leave the sea becalmed [between thee and Pharaoh's men]: for, verily, they are a host destined to be drowned!" 24 They left - how many! of gardens and springs. 25 And cornfields and goodly positions. 26 And comforts of life wherein they used to take delight! 27 Thus it was; and We made another people inherit all that. 28 And the heavens and the earth wept not over them, nor were they respited. 29
