Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Ha, Meem. 1 By the Clear Book 2 Surely We revealed it on a blessed night surely We are ever warning-- 3 In it every wise matter is determined 4 Amran (i.e. a Command or this Quran or the Decree of every matter) from Us. Verily, We are ever sending (the Messengers), 5 As Mercy from thy Lord: for He hears and knows (all things); 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if ye would be sure. 7 There is no deity save Him: He grants life and deals death: He is your Sustainer as well as the Sustainer of your forebears of old. 8 Nay, but they play in doubt. 9 WAIT, THEN, for the Day when the skies shall bring forth a pall of smoke which will make obvious [the approach of the Last Hour,] 10 engulfing the people; this will be a painful punishment. 11 (They will say:) "Our Lord! remove the Penalty from us, for we do really believe!" 12 How shall they be reminded, and there came to them an Apostle making clear (the truth), 13 Yet they turned their backs on him and said: One taught (by others), a madman. 14 'Behold, We are removing the chastisement a little; behold, you revert!' 15 But on that Day We will assault them most mightily, and then We shall revenge! 16 ۞ AND, INDEED, [long] before their time did We try Pharaoh's people [in the same way]: for there came unto them a noble apostle, [who said:] 17 Saying: "Restore to me the Servants of Allah: I am to you an messenger worthy of all trust; 18 Do not consider yourselves above God. I shall show you a manifest authority (in support of my truthfulness). 19 and, behold, it is with my Sustainer - and your Sustainer - that I seek refuge against all your endeavours to revile me. 20 If you do not believe in me, at least keep away from me." 21 And he cried unto his Lord, (saying): These are guilty folk. 22 Then (his Lord commanded): Take away My slaves by night. Lo! ye will be followed, 23 And leave thou the sea divided: verily they are a host to be drowned. 24 How many were the gardens and springs they left behind, 25 and cornfields and splendid buildings, 26 And favours amongst which they were rejoicing! 27 Thus. And We caused to inherit it another people. 28 And neither heaven nor earth shed a tear over them: nor were they given a respite (again). 29
