Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Ha-Mim. 1 I swear by the illustrious Book. 2 surely We sent it down on a blessed night, We have always sent warnings, 3 During it are distributed all the works of wisdom. 4 an order from Us. We are ever sending. 5 As Mercy from thy Lord: for He hears and knows (all things); 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if you are certain (of your faith). 7 There is no god except He. He revives and causes to die. (He is) your Lord and the Lord of your fathers, the ancients. 8 Yet they play about in doubt. 9 So be on the watch for a day when heaven shall bring a manifest smoke 10 That will envelop the people. This will be a painful torment. 11 [They will say], "Our Lord, remove from us the torment; indeed, we are believers." 12 How can a warning benefit them? The Apostle who explained all things clearly had come to them, 13 Then they turned away from him and said, "[He was] taught [and is] a madman." 14 'Behold, We are removing the chastisement a little; behold, you revert!' 15 The Day We will strike with the greatest assault, indeed, We will take retribution. 16 ۞ AND, INDEED, [long] before their time did We try Pharaoh's people [in the same way]: for there came unto them a noble apostle, [who said:] 17 Who said, “Give the bondmen of Allah into my custody; I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger for you.” 18 and, 'Rise not up against God; behold, I come to you with a clear authority, 19 I have taken refuge in my Lord and your Lord against your stoning me to death. 20 If you do not want to believe, leave me alone". 21 But then, [when they beset him with their enmity,] he called out to his Sustainer, "These are [indeed] people lost in sin!" 22 So go forth with My servants by night; surely you will be pursued: 23 “And leave the sea as it is, parted in several places; indeed that army will be drowned.” 24 How much they left behind of gardens and springs 25 And fields and stately mansions, 26 And favours amongst which they were rejoicing! 27 As such (it was). And We made other people inherit them. 28 Neither heaven nor earth wept for them, nor were they respited; 29
