Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
HA MIM. 1 By the clear Book, 2 Surely We revealed it on a blessed night surely We are ever warning-- 3 During it are distributed all the works of wisdom. 4 at a behest from Ourselves: for, verily, We have always been sending [Our messages of guidance] 5 as a Mercy from your Lord. Surely He is All-Hearing, All-Seeing, 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if ye would be sure. 7 There is no god but He: He gives life and causes death. He is your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers of yore. 8 Nay, but they play in doubt. 9 Then watch for the Day when the sky will bring a visible smoke. 10 enveloping people. That will be a grievous scourge. 11 (They will say:) "Our Lord! remove the Penalty from us, for we do really believe!" 12 How can they benefit from admonition, seeing that a messenger had already come to them explaining things clearly? 13 Yet they turned their backs on him and said: One taught (by others), a madman. 14 Were We to ease the torment for a while, you would still revert to denial of the truth. 15 On the Day whereon We assault them with the greatest assault, verily We shall take vengeance. 16 ۞ And indeed We tried before them Fir'aun's (Pharaoh) people, when there came to them a noble Messenger [i.e. Musa (Moses)], 17 saying, 'Deliver to me God's servants; I am for you a faithful Messenger, 18 Do not set yourselves above God: I bring you clear authority. 19 I take refuge with my Lord and your Lord lest you stone me. 20 But if you do not believe what I say, leave me alone (and desist from laying hands on me).” 21 And [finally] he called to his Lord that these were a criminal people. 22 (The reply came:) "March forth with My Servants by night: for ye are sure to be pursued. 23 And leave thou the sea divided: verily they are a host to be drowned. 24 How many gardens and fountains did they leave behind, 25 And green crops (fields etc.) and goodly places, 26 and what prosperity they had rejoiced in! 27 Even so; and We bequeathed them upon another people. 28 Then neither the sky shed tears over them nor the earth. They were granted no respite. 29
