Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ha, Meem. 1 By oath of this clear Book. 2 We sent it down during a Blessed Night: for We (ever) wish to warn (against Evil). 3 therein every wise bidding 4 A command from Us; surely We are the senders (of apostles), 5 (As) a Mercy from your Lord. Verily! He is the All-Hearer, the All-Knower. 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if ye would be sure. 7 There is no god but He: It is He Who gives life and gives death,- The Lord and Cherisher to you and your earliest ancestors. 8 But they are in doubt, amusing themselves. 9 Wait for the day (which will come before the Day of Judgment) when the sky will give out dense smoke 10 Which will envelop the people; this is a painful punishment. 11 (People will then say): “Our Lord, remove this scourge from us; we shall believe.” 12 How shall the message be (effectual) for them, seeing that an Messenger explaining things clearly has (already) come to them,- 13 and they turned away, saying, "He is a trained and insane person". 14 'Behold, We are removing the chastisement a little; behold, you revert!' 15 The Day We will strike with the greatest assault, indeed, We will take retribution. 16 ۞ AND, INDEED, [long] before their time did We try Pharaoh's people [in the same way]: for there came unto them a noble apostle, [who said:] 17 saying, 'Deliver to me God's servants; I am for you a faithful Messenger, 18 "And exalt not (yourselves) against Allah. Truly, I have come to you with a manifest authority. 19 "For me, I have sought safety with my Lord and your Lord, against your injuring me. 20 “And if you do not believe in me, then have no relation with me.” 21 Then he called to his Lord: "These are a sinful people." 22 (His Lord answered): 'Set out with My worshipers in the night, for you will surely be followed. 23 And leave the sea behind you as calm as ever. Surely they are an army that is doomed to be drowned.” 24 How much they left behind of gardens and springs 25 and cornfields and splendid buildings, 26 and the life of ease in which they took delight! 27 That is what We did; and We made another nation their heirs. 28 And the heaven and the earth wept not for them, nor were they reprieved. 29
